Integrated Dual Diagnosis Treatment

Intensive day treatment program offering a blend of evidence-based therapies, medication-assisted treatment, and trauma-informed care to help you heal from substance abuse and co-occurring mental health disorders.

What is Dual Diagnosis?

Dual diagnosis is a form of treatment that addresses both addiction and co-occurring mental health disorders simultaneously. Co-occurring disorders are common, with over half of individuals in addiction treatment struggling from co-existing mental health problems such as depression, anxiety, or post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).

Mental health disorders can increase the risk of substance abuse, while substance abuse often worsens mental health symptoms. This leads to a vicious cycle that can be difficult to break without professional intervention.

Dual diagnosis focuses on stabilization and helping patients break patterns of substance abuse. At the same time, trained mental health professionals focus on treating underlying mental health disorders that drive addiction. This is done through a combination of:

Why is Integrated Treatment Essential for Dual Diagnosis?

Integrated treatment is essential for successful dual diagnosis treatment because it addresses both disorders, recognizing they are interconnected and often exacerbate symptoms of one another. Treating only one disorder can increase the risk of relapse, as underlying problems from the other disorder can interfere with recovery.

Integrated programs offer a coordinated approach that combines medical, psychiatric, and therapeutic care under the guidance of a clinical team, with collaboration among specialists.

Personalized Dual Diagnosis Treatment For Your Recovery Needs

Our integrative dual diagnosis care approach at Trinity Wellness Group equips you with skills for resilience and a supportive community that fosters your emotional well-being, physical and mental health, and spiritual growth. In our day treatment programs, you have access to a range of services that support your long-term recovery from substance abuse and mental health disorders:

Comprehensive Assessment

When you first enroll in treatment, our clinical team provides a comprehensive substance abuse and mental health evaluation. This helps us better understand where you are in recovery and what you need to achieve sustained sobriety. Our flexible programs enable individuals to create a treatment plan that accommodates their schedule, meeting for the entire day or half-day treatment.

Integrated Therapy

Personalized DBT and CBT sessions address the specific needs and treatment goals of each client. Our compassionate, clinically trained therapists help clients process negative feelings, tolerate distress, and develop emotional resilience. Peer-facilitated group therapy focusing on topics related to addiction, mental health, and trauma creates a space for shared connections, fostering feelings of community and mutual understanding. Structured family therapy sessions help improve family dynamics, focusing on improving communication, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.

Medication Management and MAT

Oversight by a clinical prescriber to administer mental health medications deemed medically necessary, including Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT) options for substance abuse disorders, such as naltrexone. We can also prescribe psychiatric medication to improve symptoms of co-occurring disorders such as depression, anxiety, and ADHD.

Relapse Prevention Planning

Dual diagnosis addresses addiction by focusing on teaching patients to develop the skills to prevent relapse. These help manage triggers, temptations, and cravings for drugs and alcohol. Activities such as yoga, creative arts therapies, and holistic healing help with this, providing adequate support, especially when paired with conventional therapy.

Aftercare Planning

Development of individualized aftercare plans or transition to conventional outpatient treatment, coordinated with case managers to ensure ongoing support post-treatment. This may include continuing outpatient therapy, connecting with housing or employee assistance, or joining an alumni or 12-step program.

Dual Diagnosis General Program Curriculum

Our program’s curriculum has been developed by our clinical director, who holds over 15 years of experience in the field of substance abuse, has published academic research in neuroscience, and has over 10 years of specialized expertise in trauma-informed care.

Our program is structured with a four-week cycle, with each week focusing on distinct therapeutic themes and skills to support ongoing recovery and prevent relapse:

Focus on emotional regulation, interpersonal effectiveness, and the exploration of the importance of community and relationships in sustaining recovery, as well as the ability to start over in the face of lapse and relapse.
Integration of advanced DBT skills, trauma processing, and coping strategies for personality-specific challenges in recovery.
