Medication-Assisted Treatment in Braintree, MA

We provide comprehensive Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT), integrating FDA-approved medication with evidence-based therapies, to address the physical, psychological, and social components of addiction.

What is Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT)?

MAT is an approach to treating substance abuse disorders. It combines FDA-approved medications with counseling and behavioral therapies (required by federal law) to address both the physical and psychological healing components of addiction.

Several studies show it is highly successful, most commonly used to treat opioid and alcohol use disorders. MAT has been shown to prevent overdoses and increase patient survival rates, improve treatment retention, and decrease criminal activity related to opioid use.

Key components of MAT programs include:

Medication Selection

Our Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT) combines FDA-approved medications with behavioral therapies. We specialize in prescribing Naltrexone for opioid use disorder and Acamprosate for alcoholism. We do not prescribe methadone. However, we welcome individuals currently on methadone and offer integrated care to support their ongoing recovery.

Individual Therapies

Individual therapies such as Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) and Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) treat underlying mental health disorders and trauma that can drive addiction. These focus on reframing negative thoughts, processing trauma, building positive coping skills, and reducing the impact of emotional distress.

Group Therapy

Daily group therapy sessions and opportunities for peer connection provide a space to foster connection, overcome feelings of isolation, and share new insights with others recovering from addiction. Group therapy also offers a chance for patients to practice skills such as communication, setting boundaries, building trust, and collaborative problem-solving.

Integrated Therapies

Individual counseling and trauma therapies address specific mental health problems that drive addiction, and group therapy builds connection. Holistic therapies such as art, yoga, and music support the recovery journey by providing a physical and emotional outlet to express feelings, relieve stress, and foster mindfulness.

Comprehensive Medication Management

We also offer medication management services (you do not need to be part of our Medication-Assisted Treatment program) with a contracted clinical prescriber who provides psychiatric services and can prescribe mental health medications or adjust doses as necessary.

Patients who can benefit from medication management include:

Frequently Asked Questions About MAT

Yes, Medication-Assisted Treatment is generally covered by most health insurance providers. We accept most major commercial plans, and our admissions team can help you verify your benefits and discuss payment options.

Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT) does not simply replace one addiction with another. This is a common misconception of MAT. The medications used, such as methadone, buprenorphine, and naltrexone, when taken under strict supervision in a controlled MAT program, do not produce the euphoric “high” associated with opioid use.
MAT can range from a few months to several years, depending on the patient’s recovery needs and progress. Longer participation in MAT is often associated with better recovery outcomes.
